Fort Worth, Texas, 1934. An energetic young businessman named Fitzhugh Motheral and his wife Ella, purchased the C.C. Paxton Printing Company and set out to grow with the fortunes of their robust city. On the frontier of the Fort Worth business imagination, cowboys were being replaced by oilmen and exciting new enterprises like American Airlines and Convair (now Lockheed). Great retail empires and specialty manufacturers were starting up in the "Sky's the Limit" Texas business environment. It was in Fort Worth that the McCamy Company developed one of the world's first offset lithographic presses. And Motheral Printing, as it has throughout its long history, was one of the first in line to adopt the revolutionary new technology.

By that time - the 1950s - Foist, Carl and Wes Motheral began taking over their parents' duties in operating the business. Under their guidance, the company was among the first in the regional printing industry to make the transition from letterpress to litho printing. When Motheral installed its first Heidelberg 4-color press in 1973 it was such a grand occasion that our open house attracted Heidelberg executives from Germany to rub shoulders with hundreds of Motheral customers.

 

The third generation of the family (David, Jim, Roger, and Bill) began joining the company in the 1970s and contributing to a prolonged period of growth and expansion. Continuing to lead in technological innovation, Motheral installed the first 5-color Komori half-web press in the U.S. This was followed by the first American installation of a 6-color full web Komori. Today Motheral is one of the best equipped, most experienced, capable and versatile printers.
